The Writing Gamification System (or 1M Words Challenge)

For the last 4–5 years, I have done online writing. And only for 2–3 months per year, it happened regularly. Often, I have given up. I think it’s a common story for 90% of the writers, especially beginners, who start writing on online platforms like Medium.

I know some writers who write for a few months. I remember my first year on Medium. I have been writing for 4 months in a row. And I still remember my earnings from writing at that time:

  • $1 (1 month)
  • $3 (2 month)
  • $7 (3 month)
  • $13 (4 month)

As you can imagine unfortunately earning even 13$ per month doesn’t motivate me so much. Unfortunately, I hadn’t started writing before getting a job, so I could work on these earnings, which would be my biggest income.

But what to do when you have a job and still want to be a writer? Where to get the motivation and desire to write? I thought it would be easy if I decided to write regularly just for myself. I thought it would be one of my habits that would help me become better. But even this didn’t work. Why? Because I still had no challenge, prize, or intermediate results.
