ADHD & Writer’s Block
Frustrating but combatable
I sat at the computer today with a view to start blogging properly again. As I’ve done so I’ve been hit with the biggest writer’s block EVER.
Whyyyyy does this always happen?
Everyone gets writer’s block, whether they have additional processing issues (like ADHD!) or not, but it’s so, so frustrating when it happens, isn’t it?
I wanted to look in to it a bit more, to see if there’s a way to combat it, and I’ve come across the following regarding the challenges those of us with ADHD face when it comes to writing.
As you may already know, those of us who suffer with ADHD have difficulty maintaining focus for long periods of time. We have issues organising tasks, we procrastinate A LOT and we’re easily distracted by unrelated thoughts and stimuli. (In fact, as I was writing this article I’d distracted myself on my phone, in my head AND with my favourite music 😂)
So, how can we help ourselves over this hurdle?
Start Slowly
It’s often very overwhelming when sitting down to tackle writing an essay/blog piece/poem. Personally, I find that everything I want to write is whizzing around my head at the same time and I’m left with half-sentences, ideas with a middle, but no beginning or…
