Embracing Discomfort: an End to Suffering
The thing that causes us suffering is the ability to self reflect, to notice our own mind. When we are in a situation that causes discomfort then that’s all there is. Being with it, acknowledging it will allow us to act, ‘despite’ of it.
It becomes a problem when we imagine how things can be different, better than they are now.
So we resist… we turn away from what is, we push away the anxiety, the sorrow, or whatever haunts us and we let our mind take the reigns.
The mind will come up with reasons, will fuse it to our sense of self and before we know it our inner voice tells us all kinds of things that are not true.
These thoughts, repeated often enough, then create these ‘grooves’ in our mind through which our thoughts flow, contained, conditioned, like water through a canal.
Now we can do several things to change our mindset.
We can allow the feelings of discomfort and act nonetheless. We stop avoiding. We stop minding the mind. But lovingly stay present with what we feel/experience.
