Whose Life Can We Light Up Today?

Creating light-filled connections through words

The connections and linkages of etymology have always thrilled me. The idea that all languages are interconnected in some way, because humanity came from a handful of common roots, is a wonderful one.

According to Hindu mythology, Agni is the God of Fire. In what I see as a seamless connection of all languages in the world, Agni has given us the English language verb ‘ignite’, the noun ‘ignition’ and the adjective ‘igneous.’ This is one of my favourite English words, ‘ignite’: a word that owes its origin to the God of Fire, ‘Agni’, himself.

We are all beings of light.
Can we use the light we have, to light up another life?

It doesn’t take up much of our time, or energy. All we need to do is remember the name of one person who helped us on our journey, and tell them about what their one thought, word, or deed meant to us, when we were looking for a way out of a quagmire, or out of the darkness that had enveloped us.
