To My Mum and All Mothers…

Today, I held my two-week-old cousin for the first time. I had never seen a newborn this tiny before🥹

I took my time to mentally capture her unblinking, curious eyes, her delicate, wobbly fingers and feet, and her tiny mouth that made her all the more adorable. My mom, however, insisted that I was even tinier at birth. Lolsss.

A little while later, her mother picked her up—clearly, it was feeding time. How do mothers always seem to know exactly when their babies need something?

After feeding, she unbuttoned the baby’s jumper and checked her nappy. As expected, there was something that needed to be cleaned up. No wonder, my little cousin has been moving from in discomfort. Her mother cleaned her up immediately.

When it was time to go, she then adjusted the baby carrier, making it so cozy that I was convinced it could pass for a real bed. And just as soon as my cousin was placed inside, she drifted off to sleep. Beautiful, right?

I was lost in thought. How do mothers understand what their babies need so effortlessly? It’s incredible.

Mothers have an instinct that never ceases to amaze me. If they can read our needs when we are tiny and unable to express ourselves, how much more can they understand us as we grow older? They…
