The Sound Of Silence
Not a poem — an update on my writing journey on Medium
Where do I even start? I’ve been silent lately and have not published much on Medium. I have, however, enjoyed reading your stories and commenting on your posts.
As many of you know, there have been massive issues for us writers, at least the crowd I hang with; the algorithm has changed (many of my pieces seem invisible), writers get only paid pennies, and so on.
I will spare you the details of the erosion of integrity because my peers—, , , , and , to name just a few—have expressed this quite eloquently. I’ve linked two articles below. Thank you for speaking up loud and proud. I adore you.
I am more of a touchy-feely person because things were off before I learned about the facts, besides my sub-zero earnings. While income has not been my main reason for writing here, it sure is a blow to morale that I’ve made only pennies — a whopping $2.96 in January — for stories I have published. Ha!
Anyhoo, I kept hoping for transparency from the Medium gods and some authentic juice, but there has been SILENCE. FOR. TOO. LONG.
