My First Scientific Conference Experience
There’s always a lot to learn
As many of you might know, I am a research scholar in Computational Chemistry at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.
My research focuses on sustainability and catalysis, converting harmful gases like carbon dioxide and methane to useful chemicals like methanol, ethanol, hydrogen, synthesis gas, etc.
In July this year, I had a wonderful opportunity to present my research work at an international conference at the Indian Institute of Technology, Mandi (IIT-Mandi), Himachal Pradesh, India.
This was my first conference experience. The conference lasted for 4 days. It had talks from distinguished national and international researchers. The entire schedule was tightly packed until dinner, starting from breakfast.
I presented a poster on my research work focusing on the conversion of Carbon dioxide and methane to synthesis gas (carbon monoxide and hydrogen). It is also known as syn-gas and finds many industrial applications such as producing useful chemicals like methanol and ethanol, apart from being used as a potential fuel.
The poster was very well received by other fellow researchers and the esteemed jury members. What surprised me was the inquisitiveness and curiosity of the jury.
