Angry Young Female Voter
As a twenty-something White woman — I am NOT amused this election cycle.
(Nicole Ploni for HERZ)
It’s bad enough that we keep having to choose between ‘the lesser of two evils’ (Trump is an old school fascist and Kamala Harris is part of administration that is allowing genocide) — that alone is terribly depressing in our American elections.
But as a young mixed race yet White-Presenting woman (how people see me) in my early twenties — there is also a sense of anguish and rage as I leave my apartment right now to cast my vote. I registered as an Independent but I’m voting for Harris/Walz of course.
I don’t feel good about voting. In fact, I hate doing it.
It bothers me that the ‘popular vote’ does not decide the election. Hillary Clinton won the popular vote by 3 million in 2016 yet Trump won the election because he… won the right states. The electoral college decides election outcomes and not the raw vote for vote of the people. That to me says very loudly that we don’t truly have a Democracy. It says that my vote — a drop in the bucket coming from California — doesn’t really matter.
Next, I’m p*ssed about abortion rights. That one issue alone has me voting for Kamala Harris/Tim Walz. The Republicans have shown without a doubt…
