All Future Articles that May Be Affected By Meta-Medium Content Rules
This sounds like new publication submission posts are in danger
I think some new writers are confused or just worried when it comes to what is a meta-Medium article. Many would think of it as stats and earnings stoires. However, if we look at the details, it is very broad and we are going over some of them here.
Technically when you want to mention somebody it does count as Meta or Medium related content.
Anything that does make anyone think of Medium would be considered Meta.
That would be my definition if you say I started writing and I found Medium, I would say it might have to edit that part out and pretend you didn’t find Medium or you can say writing online instead.
Regarding this email, some say that they did not receive this email and they rarely write about meta articles. Let me know if that is the case for you too.
If you go into detail, it does turn into censorship content as we all know that paywall stories perform better than those that are not under paywall.
I think Marya has brought up an important question that many have the answer and some are unsure.
What counts as meta stories?
Of course, based on the email that Medium sent, they will let you know during March if they see your stories, I think they mean new stories that are being put behind a paywall, and they will then start to remove them.
From the wording, it does sound like they will be doing the removing part as how they define it will mainly focus on the link in that section of the email.
Let’s see what it says.
Basically, it didn’t really help because one can say it covers everything related to Medium.
Let’s make a list of some of the obvious ones and not-so:
- Stats, earnings, and all metrics (including any kind of milestone)
- About how you feel about writing here
- Any questions or comments about Medium
- No more talk about Tony replies to you, etc
- Mentioning others
- Publication related articles
There are more but these should cover most of what everyone wants to write about Medium.
Now for anyone that are looking to create a publication, it is best to do it before March since your pub submission post will be in danger of not receiving a few pennies for every new writer that is wanting to join your pub.
And if you are looking to support a member-only pub this will matter even more if you put that post under non-paywall, which will attract more non-members.
This will become an issue for pubs and the community so having external communication is a must I guess or else how would you stay connected?
