I’m Taking a Stand Against Forgiveness
Prioritize self-preservation instead
Forgiveness is such a buzzword these days that I find men and women forgiving all kinds of atrocities because it is the right thing to do or because it is expected of them.
The other day a friend told me about how her husband cheated on her, but she felt obligated to forgive him. She loved him and he was a good man.
A few days later when she found out he had a daughter from a love affair she knew nothing about, she forgave him again. It was the right thing to do for the child’s sake.
Last week, she found out he had used up most of the money in their retirement accounts to fund another unknown child’s upbringing and she is currently trying to swallow this latest poison pill to forgive him again! After all, he was using the money for a good cause.
Yesterday my friend’s husband told her to move out when their lease on the rental property ends. He moved out immediately and went to live with his girlfriend and their daughter. My friend is struggling to forgive him this time after all she has endured in this marriage, but I know she will force herself to get there soon. The little girl needed her dad!
