The world is always at a crossroads. Are we really in trouble now, or have we been in trouble for some time? Where can we find the answer to so many of our problems?
We live in a time of both crisis and opportunity. While there are many reasons to be anxious, there are also reasons to hope — to hope not only in each other but also in God. There are opportunities for renewed thinking, acting, reconciling, crossing boundaries, building bridges, and experiencing God and God’s Spirit moving in the world.
Is the world “going to hell in a handbasket”? That phrase has been repeated over the last 500 years and used during political unrest, plague, war, and famine. Our feelings of unrest are not new. Is this road to hell 500, or 2000, or however many years long, or is our situation today actually rapidly deteriorating and on a course for disaster?
On the other hand, I have also read that we are on course to ascend/evolve to new higher heights, whether we are ready or not. Changes in knowledge, science, nature, cosmology, and politics will usher in a new age. Will advanced scientific and political understanding outpace the…
