Unusual Signs You Might Be a Prophet
The prophetic rarely comes from the usual
The world has seen many strange prophets.
Ezekiel, a prophet in the Old Testament of the Bible, wrote during the time of the exile, laid on his left side for 390 days to symbolize that 390 years Israel had strayed from God (Ezekiel 4:5).
Isaiah, one of the greatest and most influential Biblical prophets, stripped off his clothes and wandered through Jerusalem naked. God commanded him to do so to demonstrate the foolishness of relying on worldly powers rather than God (Isaiah 20:1–4).
Hosea married an unfaithful adulterous woman, Gomer, to proclaim God’s faithfulness even when we are not. He also named his children “Unloved” and “Not-My-People” to proclaim God’s love for the marginalized (Hosea 1).
Jeremiah bought property in Jerusalem as he and the nation of Israel were being driven from their homes. He knew he would never return, but by buying the property, he demonstrated his hope in God that his grandchildren would someday return. This would be like buying a bombed-out piece of property in Gaza today.
Jesus hung out with tax collectors and sinners. He spoke in parables and only challenged power with words, not violence. It got him killed.
