Interruption of a Day at the Beach
I need a vacation from my brain
Polka dots and sun-soaked thoughts
At the edge of land, the sea laps the sand
Watermelon rinds next to seashore finds
Two sand dollars and three swirly shells
Sun tan lotion and a view of the ocean
Under an umbrella with fresh mozzarella
A white wine pairs nicely with the brine
One glass of sauvignon blanc and a sip of pinot gris
Slow boats drift by under a bright sky
Palm trees sway on a lazy day
A book to read, there's nothing I need
Two chapters of romance and a bit of historical fiction
But the clouds roll in and the sunlight grows thin
When it starts to rain I remember the pain
A memory of the beach is suddenly out of reach
From my spot on the couch in stained pajamas
Where can I find an escape from my mind
When it starts to shriek, the outlook is bleak
There is no assistance, only aching resistance
And the words fall apart in my hands
