There are No “Blessed Subtractions”
Let’s call it what it is
It happens in churches all over the world.
A person or a couple begins attending your church. They express how much they enjoy the fellowship. They express how much they don’t appreciate their last church. They let on about how your church is the most authentic church they’ve ever been to.
Those are refreshing words for any pastor or churchgoer.
Until it happens.
All of a sudden, a wave of words and activity takes place in the church. They start as small ripples that cause small amounts of discomfort. But in a short time, the waves have become a raging storm that is uncontainable.
Discontentment spreads through the church members like a virus. Volunteers lose morale. Those in major roles question why they are being asked to do so much. Some step down to find a new vision. Others continue to serve, but push against their responsibilities.
And the root cause hides behind each billowing wave of this fellowship-destroying storm.
Then it happens. Among the discontented church body sprout advocates. Not advocates of stability and peace, but advocates of change. Advocates of the person or couple that opened the windows to this storm. Advocates that attempt to…
