How Lust Distracts Us from God’s Purpose
We can be walking closely with God — serving in church, attending small groups, praying daily, and surrounding ourselves with the Christian community. On the outside, everything seems to be going well. We feel like we’re doing all the right things. And yet, beneath the surface, there can be something quietly working against us. That is lust. Sometimes it lingers quietly in the background, subtly dulling our hunger for God, and keeping us from fully experiencing the freedom in Him. It’s a harsh reality, but one worth facing — because ignoring it only gives it more power.
We often think of lust as something obvious — that it should be something loud, tempting, and unmistakable. But we often get tempted to lust in a very subtle way. It sneaks into our thoughts, appearing to be harmless.
If we are not careful, lust can slowly start to shape the way we think, act or even how to relate to others. Often, a passing glance or a quick moment of gratification may seem like something small. But these “small” moments often lead to deeper and more consuming desires. Lust can distort how we see people and situations.
So why is it difficult to prevent or even detect the early warnings of lust? Don’t we already know what it is about? The truth is lust doesn’t always arrive with flashing…
