All it takes for evil to triumph is silence.
Be a voice in the silence.
When images of children behind fences lying on concrete floors with just flimsy silver emergency blankets were blasted all over social media, why didn’t the American people act? Why did we sit ideally by while children died, alone, cold, without any sort of comfort, from the flu. How is it that close to fifty percent of a “Christian” nation are supporting this same man who allowed this atrocity to happen. Is there some sort of massive amnesia?
The next thing we need to ask ourselves is if these forgotten souls had been white, would the response from the public have been different?
I keep seeing those faces. Wondering where they ended up. Back with their parents? You may wonder why I care so much. Well maybe it’s because I worked with youth who had suffered all manner of abuse for so many years. Maybe it’s because I have read so many case files of children who will never be able to let all the trauma of their pasts go. Maybe it’s because of all the suicide watches I have sat for teens in treatment. Or maybe it’s because I know all humans have feelings that need to be considered, honored. Childhood is a fragile time of growth. It’s where we learn to trust or distrust.
This election has stirred so many feelings for me. Feelings of revulsion, fear, anger, and sadness amongst others. When talk of stripping people’s citizenships to deport them is a crowd pleaser, one has to wonder where we as a people have gone so very wrong. When I was in high school, students often wore these bracelets that said WWJD (what would Jesus do?). It seems that these bracelets need to come back into style as a reminder that if you want to hide behind the Bible then you need to act in a Biblical manner. Hatred, racism, and segregation are not acting Biblically.
Just for one moment stop and think. A person is deported after living in the US legally for five years. What are they returning to? Nothing that’s what. Our country would be condemning people to poverty and death. Seriously, could you step off of a plane with no job, no home, no help and survive?
There has been so many lies. Illegals do not vote. The American people who are citizens vote. We need to make sure our voices are heard. Be the voice in the silence. Be the voice of reason. The voice of Christian values. The voice of acceptance. When the day comes for you to walk through the Pearly Gates make sure St. Peter isn’t going to turn you away. Peace.
