My story isn’t unique — it’s the reality of countless women around me
I started writing on Medium simply to learn — to improve my writing and express my thoughts. Some people dream of writing books, becoming activists, or making a name in their field. But for me, writing is about feeling heard.
I want to share my life and the lives of the women around me — ordinary women from middle-class families whose voices are often ignored. We follow the paths set for us, rarely stopping to ask what we truly want.
Living a Life Designed by Others
I’m in my early 30s. I studied engineering because my family wanted me to — after all, I was good at academics. Later, I pursued another degree because my husband planned to move abroad, and I followed the course he chose.
Now, after years of studying and working, I find myself wondering: what do I want?
The men in my family made every major decision in my life — from the courses I studied to where I lived. I’ve never taken a solo trip, never travelled alone for work or leisure. Yet, I still had more freedom than many women in my family. But there’s still a long way to go.
Even my wedding day was planned entirely by the men. They decided on the guest list, the arrangements…
