As an HSP, I know what it is to be self-critical. The intrusive voice in your head, which always has something to nag about everything you do, whether it’s dealing with your family, friends, or your colleagues. Whether you have written a good article or whether you are not reacting too emotionally to things you experience. It is a constant stream of doubts and self-criticism.
Not that it’s all doom and gloom if you’re highly sensitive; you can enjoy the smallest things, from beauty in nature to art in the museum, from music to the cheerful behavior of children and dogs.
By deeply processing all the information from your environment, but also through internal stimuli, such as thoughts and feelings, it is not surprising that an HSP is self-critical.
Why self-criticism is so strong (in HSPs)
People, and not just HSPs, are often driven by fear. And I mean the fear of what others will think of you if, for example, you do something wrong, if you may not behave nicely enough, or if you don’t work hard enough.
Fear of rejection and therefore not belonging to the group is rooted in our existence. Humans are social animals. We feel safe within the…
