The Day a 37 Year Old Man Discovered Empathy
If you feel the need to Mansplain empathy to a woman, you’re not very empathetic.
Sitting on a yoga mat, staring into the eyes of possibly the most beautiful man I’ve ever met, I immediately got the ‘Ick.’
In Ubud, Bali, I joined a workshop with a Shaman. Part of my ‘try new things’ resolution. The description of what was to take place during this workshop was as vague as you might expect. Something about healing ancestral wounds, finding your life’s purpose, love and light… [insert your favourite spiritual vernacular here]
After a short meditation to some soothing sitar we were paired up to share our other-worldly insights. This is how I came to be face-to-face with a man, who, under all other circumstances would not notice me if I ran him over with a bus. Big, white toothed smile, dark and mysterious eyes and an accent you can’t quite place. You know the type. He had me hook, line and sinker and he knew it.
The Shaman asked us to share what what came “through” during the meditation. “Through” from where, and to where, I’m not sure. The vague nature of these workshops…
