Miley Cyrus’ Flowers and the Anthem for Repressed Women
The reason everyone cheered her on at the Grammys
Last weekend was the Grammys, and many of the highlights from the night have made their way to our feed. I’m late — I’m not a pop culture journalist yet.
As someone who only listens to music, most of what happened on the night flew right over my head. Mind you, I just watched the highlights. So please don’t ask me what all the categories mean.
However, what was apparent from the night was that Miley was the belle of the ball, so to speak.
She won her first Grammy for her insanely popular song, Flowers. Her acceptance speech for said award and how she honored another legend, Mariah Carey, caught our attention as well.
But what made me cheer for her the most was her performance of the song Flowers. Specifically, it was the part where she was candid about her previous relationship.
Call her petty, but I appreciated it.
I won’t go into details of her long career as an entertainer. However, one thing was clear — she was often portrayed as a problematic wild child post-Disney.
Doesn’t this sound familiar?
