Interview With a Butch Transsexual Woman. Part 1
A Talk Between a Trans Woman and a Transsexual Butch About Hatred, Transitioning, Misgendering, and Clocking
My name is Kira, I’m a trans woman and counselor specializing in transgender care. Recently, I started a project where I interview professionals working with the trans community and its members all over the world. The main goal is to show the diversity, raise awareness, and educate society about transgender people. I’ll share text versions of these interviews on Medium.
This is the first part of the interview with Scarlett, a transsexual butch woman from the US. Her experience is unique, and she gladly shared it with me.
Kira: Hi, Scarlett. Thank you for coming. Thank you for this opportunity and for being ready to talk and discuss important subjects. Can you introduce yourself, please?
Scarlett: Sure. My name is Scarlett. I use they/them or she/her pronouns. And I’m from the US. I grew up in Appalachia. Now I’m in the Midwest right now, so I’m thinking about moving again. But we’ll see how that goes.
Kira: Do you have any reasons for moving?
Scarlett: Yeah. Right now, with the political climate and a lot of the chaos that’s going on in the US, I think…
