As moms, how often do we catch ourselves thinking, “I’m just a mom”?
Just a mom trying to juggle career and motherhood. Just a mom balancing personal interests and hobbies with a child’s tantrum-driven routine. But do we ever stop to appreciate what that means?
We often underestimate the significance of being a mom. We carried “a life” for months, endured pain beyond imagination, and brought that tiny human into the world. And let’s not forget, everyone’s journey to becoming a parent is unique — some face fertility struggles, others experience the heartbreak of loss, and many have children with special needs. These challenges make us, as mothers, even more extraordinary.
The moment we hear that first heartbeat when the doctor scans our belly, it’s a rush of emotions that brings tears of joy. Yet, even with that undeniable bond, “mom guilt” and imposter syndrome creep in. We rarely give ourselves the credit we deserve.
After moving to the UK, I realized how different things are here compared to back home in India, especially for women.
