Do You Keep Things From Your Loving Mom?
Love and boundaries need not conflict, for my personal growth
For almost a year now, I have been pursuing my dreams — and my mom does not know.
Perhaps it is wrong to say she is ignorant. She has an uncanny intuition — the sixth sense wielded by loving mothers — and knows I am doing something behind her back.
I just have not told her anything, so she can only guess.
The only family members who know are my spouse and cousin. My close friends know. Even my mentors whom I meet infrequently know, and they are around my mother’s age. They have been unanimously supportive.
Sometimes, it feels like I am leading a secret life, especially when I love my mom and would prefer confiding in her like a best friend.
However, there are good reasons why I do not tell her everything.
I know I will be judged, so I choose to draw boundaries
My dreams are linked to the creative arts: writing and singing. While I have no intention to make a living from singing, I have a vision for my writing and am planting seeds.
