Seeing My Face on My Ex’s Fridge

My ex asked our kids to feed the cats.

As they don’t drive, what he is doing is asking me to feed the cats.

I agreed because they love seeing our old pets, and I miss seeing them, too. I allowed myself to go inside since I hadn’t been there in a long time. As he’s away on vacation with his girlfriend, it was okay for me to visit the cats. There was no chance the ex would be there.

There was a concern, however. What about if he had a photo of his girlfriend on display? Would there be signs of a woman’s touch in a bachelor pad? A feminine sweater hanging off a chair would show that she had a presence in his life.

Sitting in his driveway, I debated. To go in? Stay in the car and wait?

No, the idea of some other woman wouldn’t stop me from seeing my old cats. I missed seeing them. It wasn’t their fault that Mommy and Daddy got a divorce. I breathed in deeply and walked inside.

There was no sign of any photo. His man cave-style living was, as I remembered it from my last visit. That was before I decided that being his friend was not viable. I could breathe a little more.
