Yes, My Dogs Have an Outhouse

If your dogs hate winter, they may need one, too

Behold, The Potty Tent! Outside is snowy, inside is dry. I wish I’d taken another picture when the snow was a foot deep, but you get the idea. Photo by Michelle Teheux.

I really don’t want to be known as the lady who only writes about outhouses, but here we go.

I’m (probably unwisely) following my outhouse post with a doggy outhouse post.

I have an elderly tripod beagle mix named Cashew who really does not like going outside to do her business, and I really can’t blame her. Walking on snow and ice can’t be fun when you’re old and missing a leg, right?

Thus, my husband invented The Potty Tent.

When it’s raining or there’s snow on the ground, I pick Cashew up and carry her right out to the dry, snowless patch of grass under The Potty Tent. There, she will do what needs to be done because she really doesn’t want to walk in the snow at all. If she hesitates or if the snow is really deep, I’ll pick her up and carry her back into the house after she’s done.

This is The Potty Tent in progress. We removed the chains. Photo by Michelle Teheux.

Mr. Joe is a bit younger and much stronger, plus he has four legs. He loves snow, but he’s short. Nobody wants to pee or poop when their feet are sinking into…
