What Makes Medium Readers Different

Literate, intelligent, well-read people are seldom Trumpers

An old friend of mine is a columnist at a major newspaper. His journalism career is infinitely more successful than mine ever was.

He is part of a rare breed — someone still making a good living at a newspaper — and I’m jealous as hell. However, by writing here at Medium, I have something he will never have at his job: overwhelmingly positive readers.

It’s so progressive here.

Of course there are some conservatives here, and even a few Trumpers (the two are not synonymous!) but overall, this is a blue corner of the web.

Maybe Medium readers are in fact nicer than the readers of the newspaper where he works. Or maybe they’re just smarter! Screenshot by Michelle Teheux.

And you and I both know why, too. It’s like I told him: Literate, thoughtful, well-read people are seldom Trumpers.

Not everybody will agree with me on everything, and they shouldn’t — I’m not always right about everything and I know it. My opinion does evolve as things change or as I learn more.

I’m perfectly OK with someone disagreeing with me, but what I find irritating are people who disagree…
