Trying to Cut the Cord with Consumerism

Buying things makes me feel good

I made a New Year’s resolution to stop buying unnecessary crap this year.

So far I’ve purchased:

  • For myself — some eyeliner I saw on a Facebook ad, greeting cards from a museum gift shop, a hoodie from Key West and a Peanuts bingo game from the mall
  • For the office — some discounted Valentine’s decorations and Easter decorations
  • For others — Valentine’s cards and candy, a shirt from Goodwill, souvenirs from Key West, including coffee, spice, cookies, candy (gum in a carton made to look like Florida orange juice), a card and a book about Hemingway’s cats.

I bought all of this in two months’ time, so I’m not doing well with my resolution. I’m a sucker for consumerism. I get caught up in it like most everyone else and I want to fight back.

I need to be strong!
