“The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated,” Gandhi said.

I believe that. I’m an animal lover, but I’m also a hypocrite because I eat meat and wear leather jackets.

Giving up meat isn’t easy.

I’ve been a vegetarian twice in my life. The first time was in college, before there were all of the vegetarian options available today. My diet mainly consisted of salads, cheese pizza, grilled cheese, pasta with marinara sauce and sweets. During that year, people tried to get me to eat bacon and other meats, but I refused. Finally, I caved in; I missed a good cheeseburger and pepperoni pizza.

The second time I gave up meat, it only lasted for four months because I started dating my husband, who is a grill master. I didn’t want to be a pain in the ass since we moved in together and he cooked all of our meals.

Still, I’m extremely sensitive when it comes to protecting and caring for animals. Man is the most dangerous animal of all and the squirrels, cats, dogs, birds, deer, fish and so on are at his mercy.

I try to do my small part.
