The Graveyard In My Basement

What do you city people do with all your old crap?

I’ve got a big old house with a large, scary basement that’s not good for anything but doing laundry and storing old appliances that I can’t figure out how to get rid of.

I need this basement, because I don’t know what to do with the old air fryer, the old espresso maker, the old vacuum cleaners, the old printers, the old anything. You can no longer just throw such stuff into the trash, so if you’re like me, your entire basement has become an eGraveyard of small appliances and gizmos that you want to get rid of but can’t figure out how to do so correctly.

There’s a free pickup one day a year, but it limits how many items you can get rid of, and you have to wait in line for hours. In the meantime, I just stick each thing in the basement and hope I’ll be able to ditch it later.

If you’re in an apartment, what do you do? Seriously, what do you do?

We just keep building shelves and sticking stuff on them. Where will this end? (Photo by Michelle Teheux)

This didn’t used to be a problem.
