Squirrels Just Wanna Have Fun

Your holiday baking is not done until you make a batch of Squirrel Cookies!

Every old family tradition has to start somewhere, and today I started a new one.

I baked a batch of special Squirrel Cookies. And I only had a very small bit of Irish cream in my Christmas morning coffee — really!

It started out a normal Christmas.

I was teaching my son how to make scones for our traditional holiday brunch, when I realized I’d flubbed the amount of baking powder.

And then I confessed to my son I’d done something similar a couple of weeks ago when trying to make my special chocolate cake for my husband to take to work. I was trying to talk on the phone and lost count of the cups of flour.

I’m actually a pretty decent cook, but apparently I cannot talk and bake at the same time.

I had already set aside the discarded dry ingredients from the cake, and I added the scone ingredients to it. I started a new batch of scones (half chocolate chip, half dried cranberry and almond, as per family tradition) and after brunch I stirred all the discarded dry ingredients together with some fat and water and turned it into what I dubbed…
