Lessons Learned From My Third Full Month On Medium
In which I consider a sacrifice to the Curation Gods
Where will consistent posting on Medium for three months get you?
That was my question when I set up my experiment. I had written a handful of Medium pieces previously, but hadn’t posted anything since 2020 until three months ago, when I decided to give this a real go.
I’ve been a writer all my life, but most of it was in journalism until newspapers imploded. Since then, I’ve done advertising/marketing at an agency, magazine work, freelance copywriting, proofing and SEO and self-published genre novels.
None of these have completely scratched the writing itch, and none of them have been especially lucrative. (And I define “lucrative” pretty loosely, having lived on a newspaper salary.)
My plan was to post a piece on Medium every day, or as close to every day as possible. Lots of things have come up in life to make that difficult recently, including two deaths in my family. But I’ve pressed on.
To be clear, the plan was not to get rich. But having previously been a nationally syndicated newspaper columnist, I really missed writing opinion pieces.
