Your job is not a social club
“Remote work damages people’s social life!” the guy in the LinkedIn thread claimed. “Humans need social interaction! They can’t just sit alone in their spare bedroom all day!”
I don’t know that guy, but I sure feel sorry for him.
Your work friends are not your real friends.
Some of them might be, perhaps, but you won’t know for sure until one of you leaves the company and you continue making the effort to stay in each other’s lives.
I’ve found real friendships at some workplaces but not all of them.
Your real friends want to spend time with you even when they are not being paid to do so. See the difference?
Having no life outside work is dangerous.
If you depend on your job for all or most of your social interaction, you’re taking a big risk.
It’s bad enough that you probably depend on your job for your financial well-being. It’s worse if you depend on it for your social well-being.
