Are Coastal People Being Brainwashed?
Midwesterners are not all farmers, and I think someone should check on California
Each time I write about the advantages of living in central Illinois or similarly affordable places in Flyover Country, I hear from the “yeah-but” contingent:
- Yeah, but you guys have no jobs.
- Yeah, but you guys don’t have hospitals.
- Yeah, but there’s nothing to do.
- Yeah, but, yeah but, yeah but.
The New York Times just ran a great story about Peoria, which is near me and within the general area of central Illinois I frequently write about. (Links at end.)
by reporter Anna Kodé tells the story of Angie Ostaszewski, who has influenced hundreds of people to come to Peoria.
I’ve heard of Ostaszewski and I’m glad for her to get a larger audience via the NYT.
I recognize the houses in one picture taken by the Times. It was taken on the street where a friend of mine lives. It’s probably the premier historic street in Peoria and the houses there are gorgeous. My friend paid a fraction of the average U.S. house price and got a showplace for it.
