In the same way that the world grows mountains of food but leaves millions starving, we’re churning out piles of information while leaving most people ignorant and producing stacks of art while leaving most of us unmoved.

More people than ever are devoting time to creating and disseminating information, but we barely talk about writing stories or making films or music.

It’s all ‘content creation’ and anybody can do it now.

Our creators used to be people who studied those who came before them and understood what the artists and filmmakers and writers and designers and musicians who preceded them were saying with their work.

And it took time.

Your education might be formal or informal, but you studied. You probably created within a community of other creators, and you learned from each other and this helped move art forward.

Nobody even believes in classical education anymore — anybody who studies things like history or literature is derided for impracticality.
