8 Things I’ve Stopped Caring About

As I’ve gotten older, I’ve quit caring about many things. I just don’t seem to give a damn.

Some of my nonchalant attitude may be a result of things that have happened in the past five years, such as losing my dad, losing my career and then losing my stepdad. I’ve also “lost” my grandma to Alzheimer’s. She doesn’t know me anymore.

This is a lot of loss to process in a short amount of time. As my mom said after losing the love of her life, little stuff doesn’t matter anymore. Things you may have thought were a big deal before don’t even come close to losing your loved one.

I’ve quit caring about a lot of little things.

1. Clothes I wear.

Then: I used to be a business professional. I had to wear nice clothes to work. A typical outfit included dress pants, a button-down shirt or sweater, boots or dress shoes.

Now: At my job, I wear jeans and T-shirts. I no longer have to look nice and I don’t work with the public, so I no longer care. I don’t pre-plan any outfits. In fact, I usually just grab the first T-shirt on top of my pile in my dresser. I wear the same jeans for several days. I’ve gotten rid of a lot of my nice clothes; there is no reason to…
