When Everything Goes Wrong

Crawl back beneath the covers

Before I got out of bed this morning, I knew it would be one of those days.

My mobile phone had rung several times, but I didn’t answer it. It was too early for anyone I knew to be calling me, but I couldn’t get back to sleep.

Then I received a message from my Mother, which is a bit unusual in the morning, but she wanted to let me know that I needed to apply for before May 31st, 2025. She read it in the newspaper and knew I had no idea because we normally complete our application in July each year. It is well worth the time and effort to apply because it gives us a one-time lump sum to pay toward our heating bill each Winter.

So, I grabbed my phone and quickly researched, and sure enough, she was right. Thus, this was the first problem I faced. I called her on the phone and told her I would have to gather my paperwork, and then we could go if she had her paperwork ready.

When I was getting my documents together, I realized my gas bill had a past-due amount listed, which I knew was incorrect. I made my payment on May 2, 2025. This started a chain of phone calls dealing with lovely customer service representatives who do not speak English very well.

My passion is poetry. My muse is sparked by emotion & observation. The world is a giant canvas. It waits on us to paint the detail with our words. (HI writer)
