A poem for anyone who grew up feeling defective
If you’re anything like me,
you were different
than the other kids in school
with their Perfectly functioning brains
And their glowing smiles that came naturally
Appearing on their face with an ease
You had never known — you envied them
With their happy families and camping stories
Their family meals they complained about
You shoved secrets down deep inside of you
And wondered if they did this too
But you knew
If you’re anything like me,
you could give Powerpoint presentations
on all the reasons why you feel defective inside
You had a lingering feeling growing up
that everyone else but you
got instruction manuals on how to live life
but you missed that day in class
and nobody cared enough to tell you…
But if you’re anything like me, you came to realize
