The Life-Changing Moment of Wearing Reading Glasses
I didn’t know I couldn’t see
Middle-age, you have arrived!
I haven’t been able to see well since I was four-years-old. The first time I put on glasses, was a moment of revelation: grass wasn’t anything like carpet and rice wasn’t smooth like mash potatoes!
However for the past decade or more, I have relied on daily disposable contacts. Life has been fine.
But my eye doctor finally leveled with me: he could help me see distance or he could help me see things up close. Age is messing with my reading vision.
“Just go by the drugstore and buy a pair of reading glasses” he suggested.
I thought he was full of it.
I could read fine.
Why did I need contacts and glasses?
I was buying nasturtium seeds at the drug and hardware store, when I thought why not try his advice? I had a few minutes to spare.
Right there, in-between the candy bars and the magazines, I put a pair of readers on. I turned over the seed packet, and the letters straightened themselves, appeared bolder. I could read. It was darn near an epiphany. I giggled.
