To shed light on the topic of running analytics, I chatted with running specialist Henning Lenertz.
Lenertz has competed in over 50 marathons, including an Alpine trail. As an athlete, he has thoroughly researched smartwatches and evaluated numerous running watches for sites such as Runner’s World.
Time Efficiency
In addition to the Apple Watch, Lenertz evaluated traditional outdoor watches.
Apple’s smartwatch falls short for endurance athletes in one critical area: battery life. Sports watches may last up to a week, although Apple’s watch normally requires charging every day and a half.
What distinguishes the Apple Watch is its rather precise heart rate measurement: Even when compared to a heart rate monitor, the Apple Watch gives precise measurements.
