You Wouldn’t Spend Hours Scrubbing a Trashcan, Don’t Spend Years Trying to Fix Things That Aren’t Worth Fixing
Life is all about picking your battles
Knowing when to give up is as much of a demonstration of strength as following things through to the end.
Life is all about picking your battles.
I cleaned my kitchen trashcan yesterday and as time went by and I was still scrubbing I started thinking to myself- “at what point do I give up?” At what point do I deem the trashcan as too dirty, throw it away, and buy another one? As I kept scrubbing, I kept pondering. How many other times in my life did I put more effort into something than it was worth?
I’m a people pleaser and I want to do everything to the best of my ability. I feel guilty when there’s more I could accomplish and I don’t do it. I hate leaving jobs half-done.
Although people say, “sometimes a job done imperfectly is better than a job not done at all,” I really struggle with this concept in reality.
I find it hard to “give up.” Partly, this is due to how we as a society have placed connotations around this phrase.
