10 Years, 10 Platforms: The Truth About Freelance Writing
No One Prepares You for the SideHustles But What Really Matters in Freelancing is..
If you have spent months in freelancing and still don’t see big earnings, you are not alone. Most platforms overpromise and underdeliver — unless you figure out their system. But by the time you do, the rules change again.
But what I actually made, based on my real experience:
1. Medium (For Blogging & Writing)
My Earnings: $5 in 3 months.
Reality Check: Medium pays per read, not per view. Even if 10,000 people click on your post, if they don’t read past 30 seconds, you earn nothing.
Best Strategy? Write controversial or deeply researched articles that keep readers engaged till the end. But let’s be honest — breaking $100/month is rare unless you go viral.
2. LinkedIn (For Clients & Content Writing)
My Earnings: I have gotten the most clients from LinkedIn, but they were not high-paying. It’s not as promising as Google makes it seem.
Reality Check: Posting content ≠ getting clients. Even if you write every day, if your niche isn’t clear, no one will hire you.
