“When They’re Mean to Others, but Nice to Me” Syndrome | Observing an Ego Trap

Watching and learning a harsh consequence of low self esteem.

The frustration I feel when I see comments like this on social media makes me want to claw at my skin. And it also explains so much of what I witnessed.

This statement seems to carry the idea that because a favorite or desired person shows favor to a specific person, that same specific person may finally feel like a worthy individual.

However, this type of thinking is not without consequences.

So why do I think this is an ego trap?

When I attempt to put myself in the shoes of someone who thinks this way, I always sense two energy centers (chakras) going off. My solar plexus chakra and heart chakra. But I will solely focus on the solar plexus chakra, since that is where our ego resides.

The solar plexus is where our self-worth lies. And when I imagine appreciating (*cringes*) the fact that my partner mistreats everyone else except me, I feel a strong fire in my gut. As if I’ve discovered self-confidence.

And truthfully, that fire feels pretty damn good. It’s a form of power. And power itself feels incredible.
