The Out-of-Town Girl and the Ocean
Some moments only happen once
I fell in love with her in a dream
not at first sight,
but somewhere between the long walks
and the way she looked back at me,
like I’d always been standing there
She was from out of town
She had a glance that warmed everything
Her smile was soft,
but carried a confidence
Her walk
slow, smooth, elegant
Each step said
I belong here, and this moment belongs to me
Others noticed too
The out-of-town girl held attention
And she never seemed to mind
We stayed near a ship,
dry-docked but never still
It moved in ways I didn’t understand
Sometimes through streets
Sometimes through sand
The ocean was just a stone’s throw away
but felt further than that
We talked
We laughed
We danced
there was closeness
but not only with me
