Intuition Vs. Anxiety
The battle for control of your mind
I question myself on a daily basis.
Do I want pizza or tacos for dinner?
Did I text my mom back?
Do I really need to eat this ice cream at 1030 pm on a Tuesday?
I think we can all relate to the feeling of being overwhelmed with questions and open-ended thoughts that play on a constant loop. It’s what makes it so easy to sit down to an episode or four of The Office at the end of a long day.
Then there is the sharp piercing anxiety that comes from time to time when we have a particularly hard decision to make. I’m talking about the kind of decisions that keep you up at night, and threaten to upend your whole world.
While on the phone with a friend a few days ago, she expressed being in this state of uncertainty and indecision ALL the time. Even with simple questions she feels paralyzed by indecision.
I was baffled by what this means for her day to day life. How exhausting it would feel to question myself at every single turn.
“Do you trust yourself at all?” I asked her. The response broke my heart.
