Finding Direction in Being Lost
Sometimes answers come after wandering around for a bit
“Maybe feeling lost is kind of your superpower.”
I replayed a conversation I had with a good friend over and over again in my mind as I wandered through the desert. My adventure wasn’t really planned and that was how I preferred it.
I had decided when I woke up that morning to grab some extra clothes so I could go hiking after work. I scrolled through the AllTrails app until I found one that spoke to me. After that, it was all about going wherever the trail took me, physically and spiritually.
The day itself was gorgeous. Unseasonably warm temperatures here in the Southwest were the perfect siren call to return to the desert peace and unwind the anxious feelings that had balled up in my shoulders. There’s something special about the desert in the wintertime.
If you’ve ever been in the middle of nowhere during heavy snowfall, the winter desert feels lot like that. Not with the biting cold, but the silence. The noise of the cicadas is gone for the season and the peace it leaves behind can pierce you to the core.
