A SHORT STORY
Will You Be Mine?
A short story on nurture and ownership
Seeing that he's online, she jokingly typed in:
"I LOVE U, WILL U BE MINE?"
—knowing that he would leave it unseen anyway, as he always does.
But lo! As if the angels were on her side that very moment, he replied:
“Definitely not.
I don't take ownership, nor want to be owned in return.
Because ownership is authoritative in every sense.
Besides, more often than not, owners change with time.
So I'd rather choose someone who nurtures, over somebody who acquires ownership.
I am a rancher, not a businessman.”
Right then, she decided to mark his message unseen too—just to save face!
But not before she read his follow-up message:
“BTW, that was just my view. I'll tell Alee you've texted. This is his brother..."
And that, my dear,
was how my mum met my father.
Thanks for reading.
