The Illusion of the Self and the Role of God
You don’t exist but you’re God.
First of all: I’m not a religious person. I’m not a fan of the church as an institution and I don’t believe in what our society commonly refers to as God. I do believe in what I refer to as God though, and I know that I am God.
I am God?
Yes, I am. And no, I’m not an overly self-confident narcissist with a God complex. You are God too. We all are, most of us just don’t know it yet. So let me tell you why you and I are both God.
The illusion of separateness
The biggest misconception we have about God is that we think of God as a separate entity. There’s us and then there’s God. This feeling of separateness doesn’t only apply to God, but also to things, animals, and plants. There’s us humans and then there are all these other beings. Even within humanity, we see ourselves as separate from everyone else. There’s me and then there’s you.
I honestly don’t know where this sentiment is coming from, but I’d assume it was a long process of social and cultural conditioning throughout hundreds of years that brought us further apart instead of closer together. It’s also interesting that from a socio-cultural point of view there are so-called individualistic and collectivist cultures.
