If locking eyes qualifies as meeting someone, then yes, I’ve met quite a few celebrities. These moments had intensity and meaning, at least they did for me. If these celebs were to meet me now and stare into my much older eyes, they would say, I remember you. Hey, a girl can dream.

It’s my Karma to get invited to places where I don’t quite belong — a ball at The Plaza, a grand opening of a Gallery, a private party at The Met, many a movie premiere. I’m the queen of the extra ticket. I must be a great date.

I’ll never forget the image of Prince coming down the profoundly long escalator at the Ziegfeld Theatre. I spotted him in his mini Elvis-esque sequined jumpsuit the second my foot touched the step. I was on my way up.

I was dressed to impress at the premiere of the movie Purple Rain. You never know who you’ll meet — like the star of the movie upon entering the Theatre. Our eyes locked immediately. We were coming towards each other. For a second there, I thought I must be hallucinating. Is he looking at me? His eyes never moved from mine, and I held my gaze.
