A few years back, my friend and I were working out at my cousin’s women’s only gym. We were pushing our limits, spotting each other on the incline bench press.
It was my turn, and I’d loaded the bar with challenging weights. As I struggled to push the final rep, panic set in when I realized my friend wasn’t there to help. His attention was completely diverted, his gaze fixed on something to his right.
I mean, this was a women’s gym, for crying out loud! Whatever had captured his interest must have been pretty extraordinary.
I yelled out for help, and he reacted instantly but recklessly. He grabbed the bar on the left and tried to assist, but his unbalanced force nearly sent me crashing to the floor.
Recognizing his mistake, he frantically reached for the other side, somehow stabilizing the weight within seconds.
