IMOGENE’S NOTEBOOK
This Perpetual Us
A poem
When love glows,
it shines like a supernova,
and when love grows,
birds sing slow waltzes,
and we, this blissful us,
dance under starlight and fireworks,
and the trees and flowers move with us,
their branches and stems sway
rhythmic, enraptured,
hypnotised by the hypnotic us.
Our hips and hands and hair float on the breeze
as we swirl and twirl and circle each other,
endlessly, tirelessly,
and our eyes lock on each other
and our arms tighten around each other.
Memories we’ve yet to make begin to appear as solid as iron,
as beautiful as crystal,
and the promises we will make.
and the vows we made,
stitch themselves into tapestries,
wrap themselves around us like shrouds,
as we surround ourselves in a single word
Forever.
